| Welcome to The Free Range Meat Company. A Passion for Quality Meats at Affordable Prices Owned by an experienced farmer and an award winning chef, we are a small independent business in Kettering, Northamptonshire striving to bring the very best quality free range meat from traditional and rare breeds, direct to the consumer at a reasonable price; and as our entire farming process takes place through local sources you can be assured that your meat will have been processed with the minimal amount of 'food miles' possible. All of our top quality free range pigs are used for our hog roast business; due to our small scale, repeat visitors will notice that we have removed the meat sales page. We will occasionally have Pork and Bacon available, for sale, but only as quarter / half / whole pig multiples and only 6 dates per year because of our breeding program. Our philosophy Over the past 5 years, many food retailers have introduced organic lines onto their shelves with much public support and uptake. However, along with the success of organic produce their prices have continued to rise on these products, taking them out of the reach of many people. In 2005 we set out on two projects: to raise free range, rare breed Saddleback, Gloucester Old Spot and Large Black pigs to produce first class meat products and to make them available at a fair price. Whilst we are not accredited with organic status, we raise all of our animals to the same standards. When the accrediting bodies drop their prices to an affordable level for the smallholder, then we will convert over. Until then anyone is welcome to visit our farm and see for themselves our open and honest approach to farming. The pigs are fed on the best GM free feeds; kept in excellent living conditions; given freedom to roam over large open paddocks and sent to slaughter as and when they are in good condition, rather than being processed to just 4 months old in intensive systems. We do not believe in innoculating and giving 'blanket antibiotics' to our animals, we only medicate if absolutely necessary. We can also guarantee that the carbon footprint of our pork is kept to an absolute minimum. Our pigs have a guaranteed maximum of 61 food miles and all their feed is locally sourced too. These farming methods minimise the stress to the animal and increases the quality of the end product whilst minimising the environmental impact. Now in our fourth year, we believe we have achieved what we set out to do and are ready to offer our product to people who not only have an interest in quality food, but also in how it arrives to them. The next time you are doing your weekly shop have a read of the packaging, because unless it states it is British there is a good chance the animal has arrived from Australia, Argentina or South Africa.
As for the second part of the project, on offering a fair price for the product, after much market research
